Late February 15, 2017,we experienced mentor Wang Kun’s DVD lecture of Most Popular Ones for Enterprise: the Ten Practices for Excellent Employees-The Promising Spirit. The lecture started along with the promising spirit, and it is the blue vase story that encouraged me. The story goes as this: An disabled veteran, who need to find a job tosupport himself after his retirement. Most companied rejected to give him an offer due to his disability and old age. While he did not give up on himself and finally find a job from one of the biggest timber company in America. Andthe boss sent him to central America to clear a mess. And on a Saturday one year later he was called to the chairman’s office and conducted a blue vase experiment(without the veteran knowing).
The chairman let the veteran help him to buy a blue vase as his sister’s wedding gift, and ask him to send to him before the departure of his train. Later the chairman gave the veteran the faked shop address and phone number, and his train schedule information. The veteran started immediately and promised he would accomplish the mission.
The chairman let the veteran help him to buy a blue vase as his sister’s wedding gift, and ask him to send to him before the departure of his train. Later the chairman gave the veteran the faked shop address and phone number, and his train schedule information. The veteran started immediately and promised he would accomplish the mission.
The veteran became confused when he reached the shop address, he tried to call he shop phone munber and found the number was invalid, and the owner’s number was not answered all the time. He could never quit as he had promise the chairman. So he checked the yellow pages and sought help from passer-by and found the shop and the blue vase five blocks away. Sadly the shop vas closed. So he checked the yellow pages again and found the shop owner’s private number and called four times until the phone was answered. And the owner said he was on a vacation and hung up even before the veteran started talking. Without other ways he tried to break the window to get the vase and found a armed police officer when he brought back the tools.
So he had to call the shop owner once again and told him he once promised his comrade to bring him through the battle field so he got disabled. And he would never lose his promise to buy his boss the blue vase as he promised. The veteran’s unshaken attitude touched the shop owner deeply and sold the vase to the veteran finally. He had to send the vase to his boss before the train schedule next. He called all his comrades to ask for a private jet and finally found one after 62 calls. And the plane stopped several stops before the train station and he took a car to bring the vase to his boss’s face in the station.
The veteran was called to the chairman’s office again on Monday of same week and was told the blue vase was an experiment of an mission
impossible. And he was promoted to theCEO of the far east due to his unshaken attitude to execute once received instructions.
It is a very touching story and also delivers an attitude of decisive execution, and the spirit is very worth carrying forward. The core value of this
lecture is the promising spirit and there is no excuse for execution. To let employees to understand it is not the same to be done and to finish,
to finish to job and to reach the achievement, no almost the same spirit and no excuses for failure.
